About The Position

The Parking Guard supports campus parking and traffic operations by setting up control devices, directing vehicles and pedestrians, and issuing citations in accordance with Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) rules and regulations. Provides event and enforcement support, customer service, and equipment monitoring to ensure a safe and efficient campus environment.

Requirements

  • No experience or training is required.
  • An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Applicants may be required to possess a current Louisiana driver's license.
  • This position requires a valid driver's license, will require an MVR, and is subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04.
  • This position is classified as a safety and security-sensitive position.
  • These positions are subject to drug screens per PS-67/FASOP HR-04.
  • This position is considered emergency essential and may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure per PS-18.
  • This position will require a physical evaluation based on the physical demands required.
  • LA Class E or equivalent Driver's License
  • All candidates must have valid U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and maintain that valid work authorization throughout employment.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the setup and breakdown of traffic and parking control devices (e.g., cones, barricades, signage, temporary fencing) for daily campus operations and scheduled events.
  • Assists in placing signage and directional markers to guide campus visitors and ensure safe and efficient traffic flow.
  • Operates a handheld device to monitor and record parking activity, issue citations, and document field conditions (40%)
  • Assists with directing vehicular and pedestrian traffic before, during, and after events to ensure campus safety.
  • Provides support during any enforcement activities such as vehicle towing and immobilization ("booting") and communicates effectively with dispatch and supervisory staff.
  • Helps monitor access control points, securing restricted areas, or redirecting traffic based on operational needs. (30%)
  • Provides customer service to visitors, students, and staff during events and daily operations, answering questions related to parking, navigation, and enforcement.
  • Conducts vehicle checks for assigned departmental equipment and documents any needed maintenance or repairs. (25%)
