About The Position

The City of Crystal Lake is accepting applications for a seasonal Lifeguard position at Three Oaks Recreation Area. The regular season runs from early April through October, and the swimming beach is open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Work hours depend on weather; the goal is to schedule employees for 20–30 hours per week, generally in six-hour shifts. Employees must work a portion of holiday weekends, including Memorial Day, Father’s Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day.

Lifeguards help provide a safe environment for customers using the beach and Lakehouse Complex. The work includes water and park safety, facility cleanliness, customer service, and supporting a safe and enjoyable atmosphere. The role regularly involves working outdoors in changing weather, with frequent exposure to wet or humid conditions and direct sunlight. Employment offers are subject to successful completion of a background check, physical, and drug screen. The position remains open until filled, and applications are considered as received.

Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Must hold American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid at the time of hire.
• Must successfully complete a background check, physical, and drug screen as a condition of employment.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including frequent lifting or moving of up to 50–75 pounds; occasional lifting or moving of more than 100 pounds requires proper equipment or team lifting techniques in accordance with City safety protocol.
• Required vision abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

• Extensive swimming experience, preferably on a high school or club swim team.
• Experience performing lifeguard duties; equivalent combinations of training are also a plus.
