About The Position

The Lifeguard guards the safety of pool users, explains and enforces aquatic-area rules and safety policies, and responds to emergencies. The role includes regularly inspecting aquatic areas, reporting maintenance concerns and worn equipment, and documenting incidents and injuries according to department regulations. The Lifeguard also conducts chemical tests and maintains water-test and attendance records in accordance with health department regulations. They may assist with swim lessons or exercise classes when their training allows. The schedule is as needed, with flexible scheduling, at UAB St. Vincent's 119.

Requirements

Current lifeguard certification from the American Lifeguard Association (ALA) or Star Guard Elite.
BLS Provider certification within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification accepted.
High school diploma equivalency with two years of cumulative experience, or an associate's/technical degree, or four years of applicable cumulative job-specific experience.

Responsibilities

Guard pool users and respond to emergencies.
Regularly inspect aquatic areas and report maintenance concerns and worn equipment.
Explain pool rules and remain vigilant to help ensure the safety of aquatic-area users.
Enforce aquatic-area policies and educate participants about aquatic safety policies.
Assist with swim lessons or exercise classes as training allows.
Report incidents and injuries according to department regulations.
Conduct chemical tests and maintain accurate water-test and attendance records in accordance with health department regulations.
