About The Position

Swim instructors are responsible for teaching quality classes and providing safe, fun, and engaging experiences for all participants.

Requirements

  • Must have or obtain current certification in either American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid or American Red Cross Waterpark Lifeguarding and First Aid.
  • Ability to swim continuously and successfully complete all required lifeguard certification and recertification standards.
  • Ability to quickly enter the water and perform emergency rescues, including lifting, dragging, and removing individuals using approved rescue techniques.
  • Ability to perform CPR, AED, and First Aid procedures during emergency situations.
  • Ability to maintain constant visual and auditory surveillance of the aquatic environment and respond immediately to emergencies.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and move throughout the aquatic facility for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull a grown adult independently and assist with heavier loads during emergency situations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and hear alarms, whistles, distress signals, and verbal instructions in a busy aquatic environment.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors with exposure to water, humidity, sunlight, heat, pool chemicals, noise, and varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to maintain the physical stamina, endurance, and fitness necessary to safely perform the essential functions of the position throughout each shift.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills along with the ability to provide exemplary customer service.
  • Must be able to make sound decisions.
  • Position requires flexibility in schedule to open and or close the pools and to work across multiple locations.

Responsibilities

  • Teach swim lessons (group/individual) and aquatics exercise classes (with appropriate certifications).
  • Start/end classes on time.
  • Provide progress updates to parents on a weekly basis.
  • Complete records and reports within required timeframes including but not limited to timesheets, accident reports, class rosters.
  • Assist in maintaining a neat, organized and clean pool deck and aquatics office.
  • Learn, adhere to, and enforce all J policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a neat and clean appearance while adhering to applicable dress codes.
  • Be punctual and maintain good attendance.
  • Participate in regular in-service training sessions and attend staff meetings.
  • Maintain swimming skills, strength and endurance.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with members while creating a comfortable, positive and welcoming environment.
  • Learn and become familiar with programming and equipment offered at the J to be better able to address customer needs.
  • Assist in promoting aquatics and other agency programs and services.
  • Develop further knowledge in aquatics, including but not limited to training provided by the J.
  • Other duties as requested by supervisor.
