We are seeking an experienced Claims Specialist Lead to serve as a subject matter expert focused on resolving medical and non‑medical liens within the California workers’ compensation system. This role specializes in lien evaluation, negotiation, and resolution while partnering with claims teams to support timely, compliant, and cost‑effective outcomes.
Requirements
- Five or more years of California workers’ compensation experience with strong lien handling exposure.
- Advanced knowledge of California lien laws, fee schedules, and dispute resolution processes.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and written communication skills.
- Ability to independently manage a high‑volume, deadline‑driven workload.
- Experience collaborating with claims professionals and legal partners.
Nice To Haves
- Dedicated lien unit or litigation support experience.
- Familiarity with WCAB procedures.
- SIP, WCCP, or similar professional designation.
Responsibilities
- Review, analyze, and resolve California workers’ compensation liens.
- Determine lien validity, jurisdiction, statute of limitations, and appropriate dispute resolution process (SBR, IBR, WCAB, or settlement).
- Prepare and issue compliant payment determinations and supporting documentation.
- Negotiate lien reductions and settlements consistent with California fee schedules, regulations, and claim strategy.
- Ensure compliance with statutory timelines and maintain audit‑ready file documentation.
- Serve as a lien subject matter expert supporting claims teams and leadership.
- Coordinate with defense counsel and other external business partners when lien disputes require litigation or WCAB filing.
