Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse

Veterans Health Administration•Oklahoma City, OK

About The Position

The Oklahoma City VA Health Care System is recruiting Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurses (LPNs/LVNs) for a designated Community Based Outpatient Clinic. The role provides patient-centered outpatient primary care nursing directed by a registered nurse (RN) or provider and supports safe, efficient clinic operations and high-quality care within the healthcare team. The position’s full performance level is GS-6; applicants may be selected at grades GS-3 through GS-6. Duties and independence increase with grade: lower grades work under closer supervision, while higher grades handle more complex tasks with less oversight, provide technical expertise, and may orient, train, or precept less experienced staff. The LPN/LVN conducts structured health screenings, delivers nursing interventions, promotes patient safety, reinforces education and preventive care, and supports visit preparation and continuity of care. Work includes reviewing patient records and medications, preparing patients for appointments, rooming patients, collecting vital data, completing reminders, assisting providers with routine procedures, administering medications and immunizations, maintaining exam rooms, and escalating relevant findings or urgent concerns to an RN or provider. The nurse also contributes to clinic scheduling and flow, consult tracking, secure message management, patient follow-up, health coaching, and team meetings. This is a full-time position with a stated schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; hours may change based on clinic needs. Telework is not available, and the position is not virtual. Applicants must meet the applicable education, licensure, experience, and grade-specific qualification criteria. The position requires a trial period of one or two years.
