About The Position

Oak Hill School seeks a Classroom Licensed Practical Nurse to help maintain students’ health and well-being so they can safely participate in educational activities. The LPN monitors health conditions, administers treatments, and implements healthcare plans. The role works under the supervision of the Nurse Supervisor and in partnership with special education teachers and classroom staff, supporting students’ medical and educational needs throughout the school day. Positions serve special education classrooms in Avon, Bristol, Haddam-Killingworth, Hebron, Plainville, Portland, and Hartford, Connecticut, with Hartford listed as the primary and secondary location. The schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. The position is full-time, union, and non-exempt, with compensation of $30–$34 per hour and a sign-on bonus of up to $4,000.

Requirements

• Active Connecticut Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.
• At least three years of licensed nursing experience.
• Experience working with pediatric populations.
• Experience providing care to individuals with tracheostomies and gastrostomy tubes.
• Valid driver’s license.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Strong clinical assessment, documentation, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary educational and healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care and treatments that support student health and educational participation.
• Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders, nursing standards, and school policies.
• Monitor student health and respond to illness, injury, and emergencies.
• Implement and maintain individualized healthcare plans.
• Provide care for students with complex medical needs, including tracheostomy and gastrostomy tube management.
• Maintain accurate and timely health records and documentation.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and support personnel to integrate students’ health needs into daily programming.
• Support student engagement, participation, and success in the classroom.
• Promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive school climate that encourages learning and personal growth.
• Support students’ social, emotional, and behavioral development as part of the interdisciplinary team.
• Communicate with the Nurse Supervisor, educational staff, families, and external healthcare providers as appropriate.
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to collaborative student planning.
• Ensure compliance with applicable nursing regulations, school policies, and Oak Hill procedures.
• Engage in ongoing professional learning and training.
• Demonstrate professionalism, collaboration, leadership, and commitment to continuous improvement.
