About The Position

The Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board (H-NNCSB) is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our Child & Adolescent Outpatient team. This is an excellent opportunity to use your nursing skills in a rewarding behavioral health setting while helping children and adolescents achieve improved mental health and overall wellness. As part of a multidisciplinary treatment team, you will work closely with psychiatrists, nurses, therapists, and other professionals committed to providing high-quality, person-centered care to youth and their families. Since 1971, the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board has provided the highest quality of behavioral health services to residents of the cities of Hampton and Newport News, Virginia, offering a comprehensive array of programs for both children and adults living with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and/or substance use disorders.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program.
  • Current, active Virginia LPN license.
  • One (1) year of experience administering medications in a psychiatric, behavioral health, substance use treatment, long-term care, or related healthcare setting.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal history fingerprint background investigation, DMV record check, Child Registry search, drug screening test and employment reference checks.

Responsibilities

  • Support psychiatric and medical care for youth receiving medication management services.
  • Assist the psychiatrist with medication management and treatment planning.
  • Administer, monitor, order, and dispense medications.
  • Conduct routine physical and mental health assessments.
  • Complete medical intakes and obtain vital signs.
  • Monitor clients for medication effectiveness and side effects.
  • Provide education and supportive counseling to clients and families.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and documentation.
  • Manage medication inventory and ensure proper medication security.
  • Schedule medical appointments and coordinate follow-up care.
  • Communicate effectively with treatment team members regarding client needs.
