About The Position

The Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board (H-NNCSB) is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our Child & Adolescent Outpatient team. This is an excellent opportunity to use your nursing skills in a rewarding behavioral health setting while helping children and adolescents achieve improved mental health and overall wellness. As part of a multidisciplinary treatment team, you will work closely with psychiatrists, nurses, therapists, and other professionals committed to providing high-quality, person-centered care to youth and their families. Since 1971, the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board has provided the highest quality of behavioral health services to residents of the cities of Hampton and Newport News, Virginia, offering a comprehensive array of programs for both children and adults living with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and/or substance use disorders.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program.
Current, active Virginia LPN license.
One (1) year of experience administering medications in a psychiatric, behavioral health, substance use treatment, long-term care, or related healthcare setting.
Must successfully pass a criminal history fingerprint background investigation, DMV record check, Child Registry search, drug screening test and employment reference checks.

Responsibilities

Support psychiatric and medical care for youth receiving medication management services.
Assist the psychiatrist with medication management and treatment planning.
Administer, monitor, order, and dispense medications.
Conduct routine physical and mental health assessments.
Complete medical intakes and obtain vital signs.
Monitor clients for medication effectiveness and side effects.
Provide education and supportive counseling to clients and families.
Maintain accurate medical records and documentation.
Manage medication inventory and ensure proper medication security.
Schedule medical appointments and coordinate follow-up care.
Communicate effectively with treatment team members regarding client needs.
