Licensed Optician Full Time
About The Position
The Licensed Optician dispenses spectacles and other optical products to adults and children using prescriptions written by optometrists and ophthalmologists. The role advises and assists members with lens and frame choices, including style, weight, and color, and provides eyeglass adjustments and repairs. It supports optical sales and service, accurate order processing, payments, and compliance with company policies and applicable privacy requirements. The position works with the Optical Manager on opening and closing procedures and is expected to maintain regular, predictable, full attendance.
Requirements
- Must hold an active, up-to-date license to work as an optician in the state where employed.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and attention to detail are required.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Open shift availability is required for full-time positions.
- Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of optical products and business practices is preferred.
- A high school diploma, college degree, and/or experience in big-box wholesale, retail, or optical work is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Verify order data entry against the original doctor’s prescription, ensure information is accurate, and file orders under the correct store system.
- Provide excellent in-person and phone service, explain procedures included under the exam fee, and communicate honestly and pleasantly with customers.
- Take measurements, select frames appropriate for prescription power, read prescriptions using a lensometer, update order status, notify members when products are ready, and handle related transactions.
- Support sales and metric goals by educating patients about available products and recommending products that address their visual needs.
- Engage with members in front of Optical during downtime.
- Follow privacy and confidential/proprietary company policies and procedures, including HIPAA requirements.
- Assist members with eyeglass adjustments and repairs.
- Assist the Optical Manager with opening and closing procedures and ensure accurate collection of funds and payments at the point of service.
- Maintain club policies and procedures and perform other duties as assigned.
- Support a safe, positive, inclusive, and respectful environment; deliver member service and GOLD club standards; and work collaboratively toward club goals.
