About The Position

Responsible for dispensing spectacles and other optical products to adults and children using prescriptions written by optometrists and ophthalmologists. Advises and assists patients with lens and spectacle-frame choices, including style, weight, and color. Verifies prescription order data, manages order records and workflow, takes measurements, reads prescriptions using a lensometer, and supports members with eyeglass adjustments and repairs. Provides in-person and phone service, explains procedures included under the exam fee, recommends products to address patients’ visual needs, and handles payments accurately. The position also supports Optical Manager opening and closing procedures, follows club and privacy policies, and contributes to a safe, positive member experience and daily club standards.

Requirements

• Must hold an active, current license to work as an optician in the state of employment.
• Strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail are required.
• Open shift availability is required for full-time positions.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Frequently lift objects up to 50 pounds; may need to lift and move heavy or awkward objects weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance.
• Use optical hand tools to adjust and repair eyeglasses, including inserting and removing nose pads and small screws.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of optical products and business practices is preferred.
• High school diploma, college degree, and/or experience in big-box wholesale, retail, or optical work is preferred.
• Familiarity with AI tools, including ChatGPT, is valued.

Responsibilities

• Verify order data entry by comparing the prescription in the system with the original prescription from the doctor.
• File orders according to the correct ABC system in the store.
• Provide excellent member service in person and over the phone to support sales.
• Explain all procedures included under the exam fee through honest, clear communication and maintain a friendly demeanor.
• Take measurements, ensure correct frame selection for prescription power, read prescriptions on the lensometer, notify members when products are ready, and advance orders through the system, including received, notified, and dispensed statuses.
• Handle money-related transactions properly and ensure accurate funds are collected and payments are made at the point of service.
• Support sales and metric goals by educating patients on available products and recommending options that address their visual needs.
• Engage with members in front of Optical during downtime.
• Follow privacy and confidential/proprietary company policies and procedures, including HIPAA requirements.
• Assist members with eyeglass adjustments and repairs.
• Assist the Optical Manager with opening and closing procedures at the beginning and end of shifts.
• Maintain club policies and procedures.
• Support a safe, positive, inclusive environment and contribute to daily GOLD member and club standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Maintain regular, predictable, full attendance.
