About The Position
The Licensed Optician dispenses spectacles and other optical products to adults and children using prescriptions written by optometrists and ophthalmologists. The role advises and assists members with selecting lenses and spectacle frames, including considerations such as style, weight, and color. It also supports sales and service goals by educating patients about products that meet their visual needs and assisting with eyeglass adjustments and repairs. The position verifies prescription and order information, manages order records and system updates, takes measurements, checks prescriptions with a lensometer, communicates product readiness, and handles related payments. The Licensed Optician follows privacy, safety, and club policies; supports opening and closing procedures; and contributes to a positive member experience and daily club standards. Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function.
Requirements
- Must be licensed to work as an optician within the state and keep the license active and up to date.
- Strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail are required.
- Open shift availability is required for full-time positions.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.

Nice To Haves

- High school diploma, college degree, and/or experience in big-box wholesale, retail, or optical work.
Responsibilities
- Verify order data entry against the original prescription, ensure system information is accurate, and file orders under the correct ABC system.
- Deliver excellent member service in person and over the phone, explain procedures included under the exam fee, and communicate honestly with a friendly demeanor.
- Take measurements and ensure frame selections are appropriate for the prescription power.
- Read prescriptions using a lensometer and update orders through the received, notified, and dispensed stages.
- Notify members promptly when products are ready and handle money-related transactions properly.
- Support sales and metric goals by educating patients on available products and recommending options that address their visual needs.
- Engage with members in front of Optical during downtime.
- Follow privacy and confidential/proprietary company policies and procedures, including HIPAA requirements.
- Assist members with eyeglass adjustments and repairs.
- Assist the Optical Manager with opening and closing procedures and ensure funds and point-of-service payments are accurate.
- Maintain club policies and procedures and contribute to daily GOLD club standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
