Licensed Optician Full Time
About The Position
The Licensed Optician dispenses spectacles and other optical products to adults and children using prescriptions written by optometrists and ophthalmologists. The role advises and assists patients with lens and frame choices, including style, weight, and color, and supports members with eyeglass adjustments and repairs. It also includes accurate order processing, customer service and sales, handling payments, maintaining privacy and company policies, and assisting the Optical Manager with opening and closing procedures. Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function. Full-time positions require open shift availability.
Requirements
- Must hold an active, up-to-date license to work as an optician in the state where employed.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and attention to detail are required.
- Open shift availability is required for full-time positions.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of optical products and business practices is preferred.
- A high school diploma, college degree, and/or experience in big-box wholesale, retail, or optical settings is preferred.
- Familiarity with AI tools, including ChatGPT, is valued.
Responsibilities
- Verify order data entry and compare the prescription entered in the system with the original prescription to ensure accuracy.
- File orders according to the store’s ABC system procedures.
- Provide excellent member service in person and over the phone, explaining procedures included under the exam fee with honest, friendly communication.
- Take measurements, ensure frame selection is suitable for prescription power, and read prescriptions using a lensometer.
- Update orders in the system as products are received, members are notified, and orders are dispensed; notify members promptly when products are ready.
- Handle all money-related transactions and ensure funds collected and payments made at the point of service are accurate.
- Support sales and metric goals by educating patients about available products and recommending options that address their visual needs.
- Engage with members in front of Optical during downtime.
- Follow privacy and confidential/proprietary company policies and procedures, including HIPAA requirements.
- Assist members with eyeglass adjustments and repairs.
- Assist the Optical Manager with opening and closing procedures.
- Maintain club policies and procedures and perform other duties as assigned.
- Support a safe, positive, inclusive, and respectful environment; address member concerns and uphold service and club standards.
