About The Position
The Licensed Mental Health Professional provides behavioral health support to detainees at Becker County Jail in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Under supervision, the role screens referred or identified detainees, provides individual and group psychoeducation and skills-based interventions, and works with custody, medical, and county behavioral health staff to support monitoring, treatment, stabilization, continuity of care, and discharge planning. The position also includes documentation, referral tracking, and continuous quality improvement activities. The role is part-time, with negligible travel and any-shift scheduling.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in a behavioral or social science field, such as psychology or social work.
- Must be able to practice independently.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- CPR certification must be obtained before hire and maintained while in the role; hands-on or online certifications are accepted.
Nice To Haves
- Current licensure with a clinical specialty from the appropriate state licensing board is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Screen detainees referred by facility staff or identified through booking prescreening or nursing services, under supervision.
- Provide individual and/or group psychoeducation and skills-based interventions, under supervision.
- Assist custody and medical staff with monitoring the behavioral health of referred detainees.
- Coordinate with custody and medical staff in managing and treating detainees with behavioral health concerns.
- Monitor and assess therapeutic support for segregated and isolated detainees.
- Support and supplement county behavioral health services in stabilizing at-risk detainees.
- Coordinate with county behavioral health services on continuity of care, discharge planning, and case management by sharing pertinent patient information.
- Complete documentation and maintain records for referral tracking and continuous quality improvement under supervision.
- Provide behavioral health support and training to help solve problems and make lives easier.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
