About The Position

The Library Temporary Worker provides short-term operational support for library shelving and collection-moving projects. This position performs primarily manual and physical work, including shelving books, shifting collections, moving library materials, loading and unloading boxes, and organizing materials according to established library procedures. The successful candidate must be dependable, able to follow instructions, and comfortable performing repetitive physical tasks for extended periods. We are seeking someone who would be able to assist with this project for eight (8) hours per day, three (3) days: August 10 (Monday), August 11 (Tuesday), August 12 (Wednesday).

  • Ability to read and understand labels, numbers, and basic written instructions.
  • Ability to place books and materials in alphabetical and numerical order.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions.
  • Ability to perform repetitive work accurately and efficiently.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous library, warehouse, retail stocking, moving, or material-handling experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Shelve books and other library materials in the correct location according to the established classification or shelving system.
  • Shift books and collections from one shelving area to another.
  • Remove books and materials from shelves and return them in the correct order.
  • Load, unload, pack, unpack, and transport boxes of books and library materials.
  • Move book carts, bins, supplies, and other materials throughout the library.
  • Maintain proper shelf order and straighten materials as needed.
  • Read call numbers, labels, and other identifying information to accurately organize materials.
  • Assist with collection relocation, inventory, storage, renovation, or special library projects.
  • Assemble or reposition lightweight shelving, tables, chairs, and other library equipment when directed.
  • Keep work areas, aisles, and exits clean, organized, and free from hazards.
  • Follow all safety procedures and use proper lifting and material-handling techniques.
  • Report damaged materials, shelving concerns, safety hazards, or other issues to the supervisor.
  • Work cooperatively with library employees, temporary workers, vendors, and project teams.
  • Perform other temporary or project-related duties as assigned.
