Serves as the first point of contact for patrons entering the library or calling for assistance, referring them to other departments as needed. This role may involve handling difficult patrons or emergency situations. The Library Clerk II also assists in training and supervising part-time library clerks and acts as the In-Charge staff in the absence of a Clerk III. Key duties include managing the circulation of library materials using an integrated library system, processing Interlibrary loans, patron holds, and Partnership library reserves. The position requires routine use of software applications, understanding shelving classifications, internet, email, and spreadsheets. It also involves utilizing Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology and converting collections as needed. Maintaining patron data and records, issuing library cards, and adhering to the Patron Confidentiality Policy are essential. The role includes handling patron payments for overdue fines and lost materials, managing cash, credit cards, and related equipment, reconciling accounts, preparing daily deposits and monthly reports, and rerouting circulation materials to other branches. Physical tasks involve loading/unloading bins of library materials (up to 25 lbs), receiving, sorting, and processing deliveries, pushing loaded book trucks, shelving materials, and preparing items for the Hold Shelf. The position also involves checking in periodicals, processing and maintaining collections, and weeding older or damaged materials. Participation in staff meetings, development days, committee meetings, and training sessions is expected. Additional duties may include ordering supplies, processing and mending books/AV items, ordering and receiving library materials, processing mail, and performing database maintenance. The role also requires participation in emergency management activities during local states of disaster as directed.
