Serves as the first point of contact for patrons entering the library or calling for assistance, referring them to other departments as needed. This role may involve handling difficult patrons or emergency situations. The Library Clerk II also assists with training and supervising part-time library clerks and acts as the In-Charge staff in the absence of a Clerk III. Key duties include managing the circulation of library materials using an integrated library system, processing Interlibrary loans, patron holds, and Partnership library reserves. The position requires routine use of software applications, understanding shelving classifications, internet, email, and spreadsheets. It also involves utilizing Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology and converting collections as necessary. The role includes inputting and maintaining patron data, issuing library cards, and adhering to the Patron Confidentiality Policy. Responsibilities also extend to handling patron payments for overdue fines and lost materials, including cash, credit cards, and reconciliation of accounts, preparing daily deposits and monthly reports. The clerk will reroute circulation materials to other branches, load/unload bins of library materials (up to 25 lbs), sort and process new, existing, and donated items, and manage book trucks. Shelving books and other library materials, preparing items for the Hold Shelf, checking in periodicals, and weeding older or damaged materials are also part of the job. The position requires attendance at staff meetings, Staff Development Day, committee meetings, and training sessions. Additional duties may include ordering supplies, processing, mending, and cleaning books/AV items, ordering and receiving library materials, performing database maintenance, and processing mail. Participation in emergency management activities during a local state of disaster is also required.
