About The Position

Fort Bend County is seeking a Library Paraprofessional - Adult to join the team at the Cinco Ranch Library. This role involves interacting with patrons, assisting with material selection and information needs, explaining reference sources, searching catalogs and databases, and supporting collection development and maintenance. The position also includes planning and conducting tours and programs, arranging displays, assisting other employees, performing database maintenance, and developing youth services programming and outreach activities. Cataloging and classifying library materials, providing bibliographic control using MARC Records, and creating/changing records in an automated system are also key responsibilities. The role may also involve emergency management duties during a local state of disaster.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • One year job related experience.
  • Computer skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication including interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees and elected officials.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner.
  • Requires evening and weekend work.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant experience working with children in groups is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with library patrons to assist them in selecting materials or meeting informational needs.
  • Explains the use of reference sources such as bibliographic indexes or computer assisted reference tools.
  • Searches catalog, databases and print sources to answer patron inquiries.
  • Assists with collection development and maintenance.
  • Plans and conducts tours and programs.
  • Assembles and arranges displays and bibliographies of books and other library materials.
  • Assists and/or instructs other employees with their duties.
  • Performs database maintenance.
  • Develops, performs and/or manages youth services programming.
  • Plans and performs school visits and other outreach activities.
  • Catalogs and classifies library materials such as books, audiovisual materials, etc.
  • Provides bibliographic control using MARC Records.
  • Creates records, changes holding, using an automated system.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
