Serves as the first point of contact for patrons at the library, assisting them with inquiries, directing them to appropriate departments, and handling potential emergency situations or irate patrons. This role involves training and supervising part-time clerks and acting as the in-charge staff in the absence of a Clerk III. The position requires charging and discharging library materials, managing patron holds and reserves, and utilizing various software applications, RFID technology, and shelving classifications for daily tasks. Maintaining patron data, issuing library cards, and adhering to confidentiality policies are key responsibilities. The role also includes handling patron payments for fines and lost materials, reconciling accounts, preparing deposits and reports, and rerouting circulation materials between branches. Physical tasks involve loading/unloading library materials, sorting and processing deliveries, pushing book trucks, shelving items, and preparing materials for the Hold Shelf. Additionally, the position involves processing periodicals, maintaining collections, weeding outdated or damaged materials, and participating in staff meetings and training sessions. Other duties may include ordering supplies, processing and mending books/AV items, ordering and receiving library materials, performing database maintenance, and processing mail. The role also requires participation in emergency management activities during a local state of disaster.
