Library Assistant, Chemistry and Dental Libraries

University of Pennsylvania
•Onsite

About The Position

The Chemistry and Dental Libraries seek a service- and solution-oriented Library Assistant who works in both library locations. The division of time is determined by the librarians in the two units, and specific responsibilities may vary according to each location’s needs, policies, processes, and workflows. The role focuses primarily on patron and access services and collection maintenance, with frequent interaction with patrons at service desks. The Library Assistant works with other library units and may provide emergency staffing at other libraries in the working cluster. Flexibility and dependability are essential because patron and staffing needs can require rapid changes in work and short-notice moves between locations. This is a full-time, on-campus bargaining-unit position represented by a labor union. Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., though hours may change with operational needs. Library heads establish regular schedules for each location in consultation with the Library Assistant at hiring; schedules are confirmed or modified each semester.
