About The Position

The Liability Claims Adjuster analyzes and adjusts minor to moderate commercial claims. The role handles claims on an inside basis from initial investigation through evaluation, negotiation, documentation, validation, and conclusion within the adjuster’s authority. The adjuster works with defense attorneys and may attend mediations and trials as a company representative when needed. The position also communicates with interested parties, monitors approved independent adjusters and attorneys in the field with management consent, and establishes and maintains reserves.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree and three years of experience, or five years of claims handling experience.
• An adjuster’s license.
• Familiarity with basic insurance and tort law.
• Understanding of basic legal principles and terminology as they relate to insurance operations.
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology and procedures.
• Intermediate computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, Internet, and e-mail.
• Internal candidates must have manager approval before submitting an application.

Responsibilities

• Verify coverage as new losses are received.
• Investigate, evaluate, negotiate, document, and validate inside claims through conclusion within the assigned authority level.
• Work with attorneys assigned to defend insureds and attend mediations and trials as a company representative when needed.
• Communicate as appropriate with insureds, claimants, agents, attorneys, repair shops, and lien holders.
• With management consent, monitor approved independent adjusters and attorneys in the field.
• Establish and maintain reserves and communicate with management when appropriate.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
