Liability and Workers Comp Attorney VA
About The Position
Semmes, Bowen & Semmes has an immediate opening for an associate in its McLean, Virginia office with 5+ years of experience in Workers’ Compensation and General and Automobile Liability defense. The position represents employers, restaurants, and other retail establishments in workers’ compensation defense, and handles liability claims in state and federal courts and administrative tribunals. Matters include defending insurers and their insureds, product manufacturers in toxic tort claims, corporations and privately held companies in premises liability and general commercial liability disputes, and insured entities and employees in motor vehicle-related property and bodily injury claims and lien disputes. The firm offers a flexible work environment with hybrid work schedule options. It is a paperless office and provides personal laptops to attorneys. Compensation is $110,000 to $160,000 annually, including bonus.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in Workers’ Compensation and General and Automobile Liability defense.
- Must be barred and able to practice in Virginia.
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Strong academic credentials and excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and self-motivated.

Responsibilities
- Meet deadlines, multitask, and handle a high volume of cases.
- Research complicated legal issues.
- Draft pleadings, motions, memoranda, discovery requests and responses, and other documents in a timely manner.
- Work closely with other attorneys and support staff.
- Handle court appearances, client meetings, and depositions.
- Communicate regularly with clients.
