About The Position

The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is seeking one (1) Legal Affairs Co-op Student/Intern for the Fall 2026 (September to December) work term to support the Legal Affairs team. This role is ideal for a highly motivated, team player interested in developing their professional career and learning more about driving sustainable growth, accelerating innovation, and operating on a global scale. Requirements

  • Must be in, or have recently graduated from, law school.
  • Keen interest in corporate & securities law, commercial law and/or M&A.
  • Detail-oriented, accurate, conscientious, and focused.
  • First-rate writing skills.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to the highest ethical standards.
  • Eagerness to learn coupled with the ability to fail and recover.
  • Strong research skills combined with analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Technology skills including the ability to effectively use Word, Outlook, etc.
  • Participates in or leads a business-focused student law club.
  • Legally authorized to work in the country where the job is located.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the legal team with a corporate law practice focused on investment agreements, particularly contract review of existing and proposed investments in private and public companies.
  • Assist the team with corporate and commercial law matters, such as reviews of commercial agreements.
  • Research, summarize, and present legal materials on global investments such as governance term sheets, shareholder agreements, investment agreements, limited partnership agreements, and supporting investment documents.
  • Research, summarize, and present legal materials that will support corporate decision making.
  • Assist in building best-in-class precedents.
  • Complete ad hoc work and special projects assigned by the team.
