About The Position

The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is seeking two co-op students/interns for the Fall 2026 work terms (September to December) to provide ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) research and support across a range of asset classes and investment subjects. The ESG co-op/intern will work within our corporate ESG group. BCI is a leader in responsible investing and actively integrates ESG factors into its investment analysis and decision-making process. Successful candidates will work in one of two work-streams: 1) ESG Integration & Research, or 2) ESG Total Fund Strategy & Risk. The ESG Integration & Research role involves supporting various asset classes, focusing on public equities, fixed income, private debt, and alternative strategies. The intern will assist in conducting ESG research, writing ESG analysis to support investment decisions for internally managed active funds, and preparing for conversations with portfolio companies, policymakers, and standard setters to advance ESG performance. This role offers immersion in the investment process from an ESG perspective, valuable ESG research, and the opportunity to contribute creative quantitative and qualitative solutions. The ESG Total Fund Strategy & Risk role involves supporting research, analysis, evaluation, and recommendations for systemic ESG risks and investment opportunities. The intern will assist in building and maintaining financial models, developing economic scenarios, collecting and analyzing financial and ESG data to support investment recommendations, and participating in the research and development of new investment strategy initiatives. This team evaluates systemic ESG risks and opportunities, their implications on portfolios, asset classes, client portfolios, and BCI’s total fund, including measuring, monitoring, and recommending mitigation and adaptation strategies, as well as new opportunities.
