About The Position

The Department of English at Sacramento State is seeking candidates for its part-time lecturer pool to teach introductory-level lecture classes in Composition, Composition for Multilingual Writers, Advanced Composition, Linguistics, and Children's Literature. The department is a community of teachers, scholars, writers, and support staff focused on promoting learning in various English disciplines. Candidates qualified to teach specialized courses in Upper-division Literature, Creative Writing, or Technical Writing (ENGL 120T) should apply to the specialty lecturer pool. Duties include instruction, class preparation, grading, and holding office hours. Course assignments are determined by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean. Part-time lecturers are instructional faculty with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget, and hires are made to fill instructional needs due to enrollment fluctuations, changes in tenure-track faculty assignments, or other factors. Initial appointments are typically for one semester, though academic year appointments may occur. Renewals depend on departmental needs, funding, and performance. Appointments are often made shortly before the semester begins.
