About The Position

The Department of English at Sacramento State is seeking candidates for its part-time lecturer pool to teach introductory-level lecture classes in the areas of Composition, Composition for Multilingual Writers, Advanced Composition, Linguistics, and Children's Literature. The department is a community of teachers, scholars, writers, and support staff focused on promoting learning in various English disciplines. Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are made by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean. Part-time lecturers are instructional faculty with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Hires from the pool are made when instructional needs arise due to factors like changing enrollment patterns or changes to tenure-track faculty assignments. Initial appointments are typically for one semester, though academic year appointments may occur. Appointments can be renewed based on department needs, funding, and performance. Often, appointments are made shortly before the semester begins.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Rhetoric and Composition, or a related field; or a Bachelor's degree combined with at least five years of teaching or relevant professional experience in one of these fields.

Benefits

  • The salary ranges indicated are based on a "full‐time rate" (15 weighted teaching units [WTUs]). A semester's worth of compensation is made up of six (6) payments of the given amount. To calculate your salary for a semester, the base rate would be pro‐rated based on the units worked out of 15 WTUs.
