About The Position

Honolulu Community College is creating a part-time, temporary, non-tenurial lecturer candidate pool for Human Services courses in Spring 2027. Assignments are made as needed and are contingent on available funds, satisfactory performance, and actual staffing requirements. The minimum salary is $2,053 per credit hour. This is not a remote position. Lecturers teach assigned courses, support students in meeting learning objectives, prepare syllabi and reports on teaching and student progress, and maintain at least one office hour per week for each class taught. They work under the supervision of the discipline coordinator or division chairperson to integrate their teaching efforts with other instructors. Student and peer evaluations, as well as self-assessment of teaching effectiveness, are required. A commitment to community college principles and philosophy is essential. Candidates must be available for evening and weekend assignments. Teaching may take place on campus, off campus at military bases or high schools, or through distance-learning courses delivered via the internet. Some openings may only be available at military bases or online. Teaching on a military base requires Department of Defense security clearance; teaching Early College courses at Department of Education schools requires background checks. Applicants must submit a resume, a cover letter addressing the minimum and desirable qualifications, contact information for at least three professional references, and graduate and undergraduate transcripts from a regionally accredited institution. Minimum qualifications must be met by the effective date of employment. Applications that are late, incomplete, or unreadable will not be considered. Letters of recommendation are optional. Applications become inactive three years after submission, after which applicants must reapply to remain in the lecturer pool.
