About The Position

Honolulu Community College is seeking candidates for a temporary, part-time lecturer pool in Automotive Mechanics Technology for Spring 2027. Assignments are made as needed and are contingent on funding availability, satisfactory performance, and actual staffing requirements. This is a non-tenurial position, and it is not remote. The lecturer teaches assigned courses, supports students in meeting learning objectives, prepares syllabi and reports related to instruction and student progress, and works under the supervision of the discipline coordinator or division chairperson. Student and peer evaluations and self-assessment of teaching effectiveness are required. A commitment to community college principles and philosophy is essential. Teaching may take place on campus, off campus at military bases or high schools, or through distance learning for courses taught via the internet. Evening and weekend availability is required. Some openings may be limited to courses at military bases or online. Department of Defense security clearance is required to teach on a military base, and background checks are required to teach Early College courses for DOE schools. The minimum qualifications can be met through one of these pathways: a bachelor's degree in Automotive Engineering or Industrial Education, three years of related work experience, and ASE certification in the areas to be taught; an associate degree, five years of related work experience, and ASE certification in the areas to be taught; or 15 college credits, seven years of related work experience including training, and ASE certification in the areas to be taught. Applicants must submit a resume, a cover letter explaining how they meet the minimum and desirable qualifications, contact information for at least three professional references, and graduate and undergraduate transcripts from a regionally accredited institution showing degrees and relevant coursework. Original official transcripts will be required at hire. Foreign transcripts require a course-by-course equivalency evaluation from a NACES member agency, at the applicant's expense. Late, incomplete, or unreadable applications will not be considered. Minimum qualifications must be met by the effective date of employment. Separate application materials are required for each position. Letters of recommendation are optional. Applications become inactive three years after submission, after which applicants must reapply to be considered for the lecturer pool.
