About The Position

This is a part-time, temporary position for the Fall 2026 semester, serving as a lecturer candidate pool. Assignments will be made as needed, contingent upon funding, satisfactory performance, and actual staffing requirements. The role involves teaching assigned courses in Fire Science & Environmental Emergency Response, maintaining office hours, providing instruction to meet student learning objectives, preparing course syllabi and reports, and working collaboratively with the discipline coordinator/division chairperson. The position requires a commitment to community college principles and philosophy and may involve evening, weekend, on-campus, off-campus (military bases, secondary education sites), and distance learning assignments. This is not a remote position. Security clearance may be required for teaching on military bases, and background checks for Early College courses.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science or related Natural Sciences plus three (3) years related work experience in Fire Science/Fire and Environmental Emergency Response occupations; or
  • Associate degree in Fire Science or related Natural Sciences plus five (5) years related work experience in Fire Science/Fire and Environmental Emergency Response occupations; or
  • 15 college credits plus seven (7) years related work experience in Fire Science/Fire and Environmental Emergency Response occupations.
  • (Related Natural Sciences: All Biological Sciences, General Sciences, and all Physical Sciences.)

  • Familiarity with competency-based instruction and behavioral objectives.

  • Experience in the use of technology to support instruction and student success, including but not limited to LMS, CRM, Early Alert and presentation software.
  • A willingness to adapt to new technology platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses in the discipline.
  • Maintain at least one office hour per week for each class taught.
  • Provide instruction and guidance to meet student learning objectives.
  • Prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress.
  • Work under supervision of discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area.
  • Student and peer evaluations and self-assessment of teaching effectiveness are required.
  • Be available for evening and weekend teaching assignments.
  • Be available for teaching on campus, off-campus at military bases, secondary education sites (high schools) and/or distance learning assignments for courses taught via the internet.
