About The Position

University of Hawai‘i, Kapi‘olani Community College, Health Sciences Department is seeking applications for the Respiratory Care part-time lecturer position located on Maui. This is a temporary, part-time position for the lecturer pool beginning Fall 2026, subject to funding and staffing requirements. The role involves teaching courses in Respiratory Care, preparing course materials, assessing student learning, and maintaining office hours. Classes may be offered online, evenings, and/or weekends, in accordance with accreditation standards of the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).

Requirements

• Master's degree in a Health or Health-related field AND Current Registered Respiratory Therapist
• Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy AND 3 years of related work experience AND Current Registered Respiratory Therapist
• Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy AND a Baccalaureate degree in any field, AND 5 years of related work experience, AND Current Registered Respiratory Therapist

Nice To Haves

• Work experience related to courses to be taught
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively
• Familiarity with competency- and outcomes-based instruction
• Currently a registered respiratory therapist at Queen’s, Straub, and Pali Momi hospitals in Honolulu for clinical practice courses

Responsibilities

• Teach courses in the assigned subject area
• Prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress
• Assess student learning in terms of course competencies and program learning outcomes
• Submit self-assessment reports based on student and peer evaluations
• Work under the general supervision of the discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area
• Maintain one office hour per week for each class taught (20 minutes per credit per week)
