About The Position

University of Hawai‘i, Kapi‘olani Community College, Health Sciences Department, is seeking applications for the Radiologic Technologist, Diagnostic Medical Sonography part-time lecturer position. This role is responsible for program effectiveness, including outcomes, organization, administration, continuous review, planning, and development. The lecturer will design, deliver, and assess instruction in Medical Sonography, update course content and materials, and integrate thinking and writing skills, as well as technology, into instruction. A key responsibility is ensuring students are well-prepared for certification examinations conducted by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. The position may involve evening and weekend classes, distance education, and teaching at off-campus sites. Non-teaching duties include service to the department and college, public service, and professional development.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in any field
  • Minimum of two years of clinical experience as a registered sonographer in sonography of the specialty field he/she will be teaching
  • Effective in teaching
  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography current registration and certification in the specialty field he/she will be teaching

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree (in any field) or Bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
  • Five years of professional experience as a diagnostic medical sonographer.
  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certification(s) in other specialty areas such as RDMS (BR, FE, OB/GYN, PS), RDCS (AE, FE, PE), RVT, or RMSKS.
  • Experience in instruction, assessment, academic advising, and student supervision at the post-secondary level.
  • Evidence of ability to work in a collegial manner with peers, department chairs, and administrators.
  • Evidence of experience integrating writing, technology, and thinking skills in the teaching of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
  • Ability to write clear prose as substantiated by writing samples.
  • Successful use of technology to support instruction inside and outside of the traditional classroom.
  • Ability to initiate, execute, and complete projects, including setting specific objectives and measuring results.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for program effectiveness, including outcomes, organization, administration, continuous review, planning, and development.
  • Design, deliver, and assess instruction in Medical Sonography in terms of student-learning outcomes.
  • Develop and/or update course content and materials, and teaching and assessment strategies and methods.
  • Improve student attainment of learning outcomes.
  • Address the learning needs of the college's diverse students.
  • Integrate thinking and writing skills into course content, as appropriate.
  • Use technology to support instruction.
  • Ensure that students are well prepared for certification examinations conducted by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers in the areas of ultrasound physics and instrumentation, abdomen, obstetrics and gynecology.
  • Plan, organize, and independently carry out independent instructional and non-instructional assignments.
  • Prepare course syllabi and maintain office hours for academic advising and for conferring with students about course work (one office hour per week per three-credit class).
  • Work in a collegial manner to provide service to the department and college.
  • Engage in public service related to one's professional status and/or expertise.
  • Engage in professional development.
