About The Position

The Salvation Army is hiring a Part Time Learning Zone Tutor for the Haven of Hope Community Center. This role involves developing and implementing lesson plans, assisting students with homework, and providing academic tutoring in Math and English. The tutor will also assist with community center programming, maintain student records, and serve as a positive role model. This position offers a competitive hourly wage and a comprehensive benefits package.

Requirements

• High school diploma with 2-3 years of tutoring/teaching experience.
• Must conduct oneself in a manner that reflects credit on The Salvation Army and its leadership.
• Must possess strong organizational skills and be detail oriented and be able to see projects to completion.
• Must possess a professional attitude and approach to problem-solving.
• Must have excellent interpersonal communication and classroom management skills.
• Must have a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
• As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 with recurrent training required every five years thereafter.
• Pennsylvania's Child Protective Services Law requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and PA DHS Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check.
• Completion of a Pennsylvania approved Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Training is necessary prior to employment.
• Must understand and support for the Mission of The Salvation Army.

• Bachelor’s degree completed or in-progress is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements lesson plans for students.
• Assists students with homework.
• Provides academic tutoring to assigned students, either in a group and/or individually, aimed at developing student mastery, using Math and English curriculums.
• Assists with community center programming as directed by the Learning Zone and Day Camp Coordinator.
• Maintains and updates daily and weekly student records with required data on academic progress, attendance, and behavior.
• Serves as a positive role model.
• Assists and supports other activities as needed or instructed by the Learning Zone and Day Camp Coordinator or Community Center Director, such as with seasonal programs (e.g., backpack giveaway, etc.).
