About The Position

The Learning Support Specialist I, under general supervision, attends and assists assigned classes and courses and provides strategic academic support for students. This role involves applying demonstrated academic best practices for assisting students with specific subjects and assignments, including writing research papers, giving presentations, developing study habits, managing test anxieties, and organizing class notes. The specialist will communicate closely with faculty and tutors on student issues and academic matters, identify and conduct targeted intervention for at-risk students, and maintain confidential records. Additionally, this position may teach non-credit courses and skill improvement workshops, maintain and track student progress in non-credit classes, instruct students who are at-risk, referred for Early Alert, and on probation, organize and instruct in Bridge programs, and conduct workshops to support learning skills and studying strategies. Data collection and analysis of instruction effectiveness are also key components.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field.
  • One year of related experience in specialized content area.
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Demonstrate time management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Responsibilities
