About The Position

St Joseph's Catholic Primary School in Portland is seeking a caring, supportive and collaborative Learning Support Officer to help students with a range of learning needs feel confident, included and engaged. The role supports students to participate fully in classroom activities and develop their skills and independence.

Working under the direction of classroom teachers and alongside school staff, the Learning Support Officer applies appropriate teaching and learning strategies to address individual student needs. The position is temporary and part-time, for 35 hours, commencing 28 January 2027 and ending 28 January 2028.

Requirements

• Hold or be working towards a Certificate III in School Based Education Support, or hold a NESA-recognised teaching degree.
• Hold a valid NSW Working with Children Check.
• Demonstrate the ability to deliver effective learning outcomes.
• Have experience working with children with a range of needs.
• Have a positive attitude and collaborative nature.
• Have experience in both primary and secondary schools.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-class support for teachers and students with learning needs.
• Support and supervise students with additional learning needs in and out of the classroom.
• Facilitate the MacqLit remedial reading program.
• Assist with data collection and maintenance for legislative compliance, including NCCD.
• Complete administrative tasks supporting NCCD and disability provisions.
• Contribute to the planning and implementation of Personal Learning Plans.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure all students are included in learning experiences.
• Apply appropriate behaviour management strategies to help establish and maintain a supportive learning environment.
