About The Position

HealthCorps is a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving lives by addressing health challenges in communities through innovative programming for teens in education, leadership, and service learning. Their model utilizes near-peer mentorship, partnering with local colleges and universities to deploy college-age mentors into schools. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in education, instructional design, curriculum development, youth development, training and coaching, public health, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with instructional design frameworks and their application in real-world, time-constrained training contexts.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with young adults, particularly college students, and engage them effectively.
  • Tech-savvy: comfortable with learning management systems (LearnUpon experience a plus), able to create and edit video, familiar with design tools like Canva, and quick to learn new platforms.
  • Ability to travel nationally as needed (estimated 10-15% of travel).
  • Passion for youth development, health education, or addressing health disparities in community settings.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to apply instructional design principles practically for adult and young adult learning.
  • Strong facilitation skills for live training, office hours, and virtual engagement.
  • Skilled at providing honest and supportive feedback and coaching.
  • Collaborative communicator who manages relationships effectively.
  • Ability to thrive in build-from-scratch environments and handle ambiguity.
  • Possess a growth mindset and model learning and adaptability.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver onboarding that prepares mentors for various settings, including running great sessions, engaging students of different ages, and handling unexpected situations in both classroom and club environments.
  • Build ongoing professional development to enhance mentors' program delivery skills, including office hours, monthly live sessions, and coaching check-ins.
  • Develop practical, mentor-ready resources such as videos, how-to guides, templates, and quick-reference sheets.
  • Review new lesson plans and activities before rollout to ensure clarity, availability of supplies, and adherence to time constraints.
  • Provide feedback to the curriculum team to inform the design for real-world implementation.
  • Translate curriculum into mentor-ready training materials, adapting lesson plans into practical execution guides.
  • Partner with Regional Program Managers to provide training tools that support local mentor support and accountability.
  • Collaborate with the data team to identify areas of mentor struggle and assess program fidelity.
  • Design training content tailored for college students, utilizing formats like short videos, push notifications, text-based tips, and interactive modules.
  • Experiment with new training formats, including podcasts, video series, and LMS modules.
  • Stay current on the motivations and engagement strategies for the current generation of mentors.
  • Spend 10-15% of time observing mentors in the field, gathering feedback to improve training practicality and responsiveness.
