Learning & Development Specialist

Encompass OnsiteFort Lauderdale, FL

About The Position

The Learning & Development Specialist is responsible for assessing companywide learning needs and building practical, engaging training programs that strengthen employee capability, leadership effectiveness, compliance, safety, service quality, and operational performance. This role is a hands-on individual contributor who will partner with People Operations and business leaders to support the company's learning strategy, develop instructor-led and digital learning, and produce professional training videos from concept through final delivery. The successful candidate will be both a strategic program builder and a skilled content creator. The role requires the ability to convert policies, procedures, standards, and operational knowledge into clear learning experiences for a diverse, geographically distributed workforce, including frontline employees and people leaders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in instructional design, learning and development, education, organizational development, human resources, communications, multimedia production, or a related discipline; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • Five or more years of progressive experience in learning and development, instructional design, corporate training, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting training-needs assessments and building learning programs from the ground up.
  • A portfolio showing original training materials and videos personally designed or produced by the candidate.
  • Hands-on experience with video scripting, storyboarding, recording, editing, captioning, and publishing.
  • Experience with learning management systems and e-learning authoring tools.
  • Strong facilitation, project-management, writing, presentation, consulting, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently, meet deadlines, and move between strategic planning and detailed production work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting a high-volume, multilingual, frontline, hourly, or geographically distributed workforce.
  • Experience in facilities services, environmental services, janitorial operations, hospitality, healthcare, logistics, manufacturing, or another service-intensive industry.
  • Professional fluency in English and Spanish, including the ability to develop or review bilingual learning content.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Articulate 360, Adobe Creative Cloud, Camtasia, Canva, Vyond, or comparable course-authoring and video-production platforms.
  • Knowledge of adult-learning theory, accessibility practices, microlearning, blended learning, and performance consulting.
  • ATD, APTD, CPTD, SHRM, instructional-design, or related professional certification.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct companywide training-needs assessments using stakeholder interviews, surveys, performance data, audit findings, safety trends, employee feedback, client requirements, and operational observations.
  • Identify skill gaps by role, department, location, and leadership level; distinguish training needs from performance, process, staffing, or accountability issues.
  • Develop and maintain an annual learning and development roadmap aligned with business priorities, compliance obligations, client expectations, and workforce needs.
  • Recommend training priorities, delivery methods, timelines, resources, and success measures to the Director of People Operations and business leaders.
  • Create role-based learning paths for frontline employees, supervisors, managers, and corporate employees.
  • Design complete learning programs using adult-learning principles, measurable learning objectives, structured curricula, assessments, reinforcement activities, and manager follow-up tools.
  • Develop facilitator guides, participant workbooks, presentations, job aids, standard-work materials, quizzes, knowledge checks, and train-the-trainer resources.
  • Translate complex HR, safety, compliance, operational, and client-specific information into clear, practical content that employees can apply on the job.
  • Build onboarding, supervisor development, leadership, customer service, communication, employee relations, compliance, safety, and technical-skills training in collaboration with subject-matter experts.
  • Maintain version control and routinely update learning content when policies, procedures, laws, systems, or client requirements change.
  • Plan and produce training videos from concept to completion, including learning objectives, scripts, storyboards, shot lists, recording, editing, captions, graphics, voiceover, and final publishing.
  • Create short, mobile-friendly microlearning videos appropriate for frontline employees as well as longer digital courses for managers and corporate teams.
  • Record and edit demonstrations, interviews, process walkthroughs, scenario-based instruction, and leadership messages in partnership with internal subject-matter experts.
  • Apply accessibility and usability practices, including accurate captions, readable on-screen text, clear audio, and formats suitable for the company's learning platform.
  • Manage the training-media library and ensure video content remains accurate, current, branded, and easy to locate.
  • Facilitate engaging virtual and in-person learning sessions when appropriate and coach internal facilitators on effective delivery.
  • Administer learning content, assignments, completion records, reporting, and user experience within the company's learning management system.
  • Establish measures for participation, knowledge acquisition, behavior change, performance improvement, safety, retention, and other relevant business outcomes.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness through assessments, participant feedback, manager observations, audits, performance indicators, and post-training follow-up.
  • Prepare dashboards and regular updates showing training activity, compliance, results, risks, and recommended improvements.
  • Coordinate vendors or specialized training resources when internal development is not the best solution, while remaining accountable for quality and results.
  • Partner closely with People Operations, Operations, Safety, Standards, Talent Acquisition, Payroll, and business leaders to identify needs and implement solutions.
  • Serve as a learning consultant to managers by clarifying performance expectations and recommending the appropriate training or non-training response.
  • Build credibility across levels of the organization and influence results without direct supervisory authority.
  • Visit company and client locations to observe work, validate training needs, capture instructional content, and support implementation.
  • Protect confidential employee, business, and client information and follow all company policies and applicable requirements.
