About The Position

The National Education Opportunity Network (NEON) is a rapidly scaling education justice non-profit focused on increasing economic mobility by providing access to higher education. NEON delivers college credit-bearing courses from top universities into high school classrooms in low-income, Title 1 schools at no cost to students. Since 2019, NEON has reached nearly 60,000 scholars across 160 districts in 34 states and aims to serve 1 million scholars in the next decade. The organization is composed of former education and civil rights leaders, teachers, policy experts, and consultants, with a board including notable figures in education and public service. The Learning Design Associate will support the Learning Design team and other NEON departments with Canvas LMS administration, course development, and instructional technology.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Educational Technology, Instructional Design, or a closely related field (Master's preferred).
  • Experience developing courses/content within the Canvas LMS.
  • Experience teaching or supporting instruction in higher education or secondary education.
  • Experience creating and editing media using screen-capture and editing tools.
  • Applying instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, backward design, UDL) to plan and organize courses.
  • Applying accessibility principles (e.g., WCAG, alt text, captioning standards) to digital content.
  • Familiarity editing Canvas HTML to manage and troubleshoot course content.
  • Familiarity with Canvas data literacy (e.g., course activity, student success metrics, and learning information systems).
  • Familiarity with copyright and Creative Commons licensing in an educational context.
  • Familiarity with interactive content tools such as H5P.
  • Familiarity with video hosting platforms (e.g., Kaltura, Panopto, YouTube, or Vimeo).
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to document processes and communicate clearly across teams in a remote environment.
  • Comfort with asynchronous remote collaboration tools (e.g., Slack).
  • A deep, personal commitment to advancing educational equity and supporting students from underserved backgrounds.
  • Passion for expanding opportunities and addressing the systemic challenges that exist in Title I schools.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Salesforce and/or Canvas is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Learning Design team and cross-functional colleagues with Canvas LMS course maintenance, course infrastructure, and instructional technology needs (35%)
  • Assist in the development and implementation of course content, including facilitation guides, rubrics, scaffolding activities, media, captions, and LMS infrastructure for college courses in collaboration with NEON staff (35%)
  • Conduct course reviews to improve the scholar experience and communicate identified issues, opportunities, trends, and progress across the organization (25%)
  • Design and deliver resources for internal stakeholders on Canvas, instructional design, and other topics as needed (5%)
