About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to provide after-school educational support to the students enrolled in the Work Force and will assist in managing the daily operation of the computer and homework centers. The Work Force is a eleven-year long, comprehensive after-school educational support and employment training program that provides holistic support to public housing students starting in the 6th grade and continuing through the first four-years of post-secondary programs. The mission of the Work Force is to empower adolescents living in Cambridge public housing to create their own pathways to educational success and economic mobility. This is a seasonal position with an option for year round employment based on availability of positions and performance, operating during the school year from September until mid-June and in the summer from July through August. The incumbent will work approximately 20 hrs/week after school and early evenings and must be available Monday - Thursday 2:30 pm - 6:30 pm, Friday 2:00 pm - 6:00 PM (and occasional evening events).

Nice To Haves

  • Associates or bachelor’s degree is preferred
  • Knowledge of Haitian Creole, Spanish, or Amharic is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Supervises daily operations of homework center and computer lab to foster constructive learning environment
  • Mentors and provides academic support to program participants
  • Maintains attendance logs
  • Updates student database and files on a regular basis
  • Reviews student documentation and curriculum material with site manager
  • Makes reminder and recruitment calls to parents and students on a regular basis
  • Keeps track of supplies at the site and orders materials as needed
  • Helps with all special events and upkeep of the site
  • Maintains a neat and organized site
  • Manages behavior in the homework center and helps students reach their academic goals
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
