About The Position

Works as a member of a leaf collection crew and performs a variety of grounds and maintenance tasks. Duties include cutting grass, removing leaves and debris, trimming shrubbery, clearing and landscaping grounds, cleaning catch basins, sidewalks, streets, buildings, and public areas, and planting and caring for trees and other plant materials. The worker may also dig graves, assist with funeral activities, and support other crews as needed. Other related duties may be assigned to meet the organization’s ongoing needs. Work is performed primarily outdoors and may involve extreme heat and cold, snow and ice, noise, vibration, moving mechanical parts, chemicals, oils, fuels, fumes, odors, and dust. The role requires heavy physical work and the ability to operate light equipment safely.

Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Working knowledge of methods and techniques used in unskilled manual labor.
Working knowledge of standard hand tools, light equipment operation, and materials used in assigned work.
Working knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned work.
Ability to work cooperatively as a team member and respond courteously to citizens.
Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions.
Ability to perform physical activities including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Ability to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly.
Visual acuity sufficient to operate light equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and small trucks safely.

Responsibilities

Perform grounds maintenance, including cutting grass with tractors, riding mowers, and push mowers; removing leaves and debris; trimming shrubbery; and clearing and landscaping grounds.
Clean catch basins using shovels and pitchforks, and sweep and clean sidewalks and streets.
Clean buildings, wash floors and windows, clean restrooms, and stock restrooms with paper products.
Pick up trash on public grounds.
Plant, water, fertilize, and trim trees and other plant materials.
Work as a member of a leaf collection crew.
Dig graves with a shovel and assist with funeral activities.
Operate push mowers and trimmers.
Assist other crews as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
