About The Position

The Boeing Defense, Space & Security organization is seeking a Lead Structural DaDT Analysis Engineer (Level 4) for its Air Vehicle Engineering team in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The engineer will support repairs, modifications, upgrades, and structural analysis for the B-1 and/or B-52 bomber programs. The position works under minimal direction and is required to be performed onsite in Oklahoma City. The role focuses on structural stress and damage tolerance (DaDT) analysis, finite element modeling, fracture mechanics, durability, and airframe structural integrity. The engineer will develop and use analytical methods and tools, verify structural integrity throughout the product lifecycle, support testing and certification, and lead structural repair development and investigations of in-service failures. The position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Clearance; U.S. citizenship is required for the clearance process, and an interim and/or final clearance is required after starting. Boeing offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. This is a first-shift position. It is not contingent on a program award, is not an Export Control position, and is not Safety Sensitive. The employer will not sponsor applicants for employment visa status.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, focused on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace/Aeronautical, or Material Sciences; the education section also states Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent.
  • Ability to independently construct, execute, review, and manage structural finite element models in DaDT.
  • Expertise in linear elastic fracture mechanics.
  • Expertise with Paris Law and Spectrum Analysis.
  • Experience with classic crack-growth analysis tools such as NASGRO, AFGROW, GROWTH, NASA/FLAGRO, and/or BEAS.
  • At least 9 years of experience in structural analysis.
  • At least 4 years of experience in fracture, fatigue, and/or DaDT analysis.
  • Strong written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance; U.S. citizenship is required by the U.S. Government for this clearance. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance is required post-start.

Nice To Haves

  • Active U.S. Secret Clearance.
  • Familiarity with Boeing Books 1, 2, 3, and 4, with emphasis on Durability and Damage Tolerance.
  • Experience with Hypermesh, StressCheck, Abaqus CAE, and/or Nastran.
  • Familiarity with Lifeworks.
  • Graduate-level or senior-level coursework in Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics.
  • Experience validating or verifying finite element model results.
  • Experience with aircraft primary-structure design principles, including fatigue, damage tolerance, corrosion, stress analysis, statics, material strength and characteristics, and repair techniques.
  • Experience with aircraft primary structures on Boeing commercial derivatives, in commercial and/or military applications, such as the 737, 747, 757, 767, and 777.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with processes and methods for stress analysis, DaDT analysis, and finite element modeling.
  • Perform failsafe analyses and durability-life calculations, and determine damage tolerance for fracture-critical parts.
  • Apply Single Flight Probability of Failure methods to determine fleet risk.
  • Define requirements for analytical methods, finite element models and simulations, and other tools used to verify structural integrity and characterize airframe structural environments and performance.
  • Ensure airframe analysis and validation meet USAF Aircraft Structural Integrity Program (ASIP) requirements.
  • Calculate fleet-aircraft inspection intervals based on calculated crack-growth rates.
  • Develop and use finite element models to determine crack-growth coefficients, and apply loads appropriately in those models.
  • Apply industry best practices for airframe primary structure and load paths.
  • Guide product design and verify structural integrity using analytical methods, finite element models and simulations, and other analysis tools throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Lead development of test plans and configurations, support test execution, and analyze and report test results to verify and validate that systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
  • Develop analytical processes and tools to improve the effectiveness, quality, and efficiency of analysis and repair development.
  • Define and document certification and test results to demonstrate to customers and regulatory agencies that requirements are satisfied.
  • Support in-service products by leading failure investigations and analyzing improvements.
  • Lead repair development, integration, and documentation of structural requirements to establish system design.

Benefits

  • Relocation assistance is offered based on candidate eligibility.
  • Eligible candidates may qualify for an Oklahoma state tax credit of $5,000 for up to five years if they have an engineering degree from an ABET-accredited college and are not currently working in the aerospace sector in Oklahoma.
