About The Position

L3Harris is seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Structural Analysis Engineer to join its team in Orlando, Florida. The role leads structural analysis of aerospace and defense hardware used in flight and ground applications, including structural assemblies, component installations, brackets, electromechanical assemblies, and support equipment. The engineer works with minimal oversight, leads complex analyses, mentors other analysts, and collaborates with design, test, manufacturing, and program teams throughout development, integration, testing, production, and post-flight data analysis. As a member of the Mechanical Engineering team, this position performs structural and dynamic analyses of complex hardware supporting space-bound hypersonic launch vehicles through design, build, test, and launch. The role requires travel of up to approximately 10% and the ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline and at least nine years of Mechanical/Structural Analysis Engineering experience; alternatively, a graduate degree in a related discipline and at least seven years of related experience; or at least thirteen years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • At least four years of comprehensive experience independently performing and leading structural analysis of structural hardware and assemblies using classical hand calculations and finite element analysis.
  • At least four years of demonstrated experience in several of the following: stress analysis, vehicle load-path definition, strength assessment, vibration and shock analysis, metallic structures, bolted joints, composite structures, nonconformance assessment, or structural test support.
  • At least five years of experience using finite element analysis tools such as Patran, Femap, Nastran, or equivalent tools.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • At least four years of experience leading the preparation, technical review, and communication of analysis results, technical reports, and recommendations to cross-functional engineering teams.
  • At least four years of experience leading structural test-support activities, including test planning, test procedures, data review or reduction, vibration testing, modal testing, static testing, or test-to-analysis correlation.
  • At least four years of experience deriving or evaluating structural loads and dynamic environments from test or flight data.
  • At least four years of experience developing, implementing, or improving engineering-analysis methods, tools, automation, processes, or technical standards.
  • At least four years of experience providing technical guidance, mentoring, or peer review for engineers or analysts.
  • At least four years of experience leading technical resolution of complex structural issues, such as nonconformances, test anomalies, design trades, or manufacturing issues.
  • Experience supporting aerospace, defense, aviation, space, or other high-reliability mechanical systems.
  • Experience with fatigue, damage tolerance, fracture mechanics, or crack-growth analysis.
  • Experience with additional analysis tools, such as Ansys or Creo Simulate.
  • Experience with composite structures, bonded joints, or structural optimization.
  • Familiarity with launch-vehicle or aerospace environmental test requirements, such as Military Standard 1540, Space and Missile Systems Center Standard S-016, Military Standard 810, or comparable standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead structural static and dynamic analyses using classical hand calculations and finite element models for flight and ground-support hardware.
  • Establish structural requirements-verification approaches and evaluate hardware against internal and customer requirements, including strength, stiffness, vibration, shock, acoustic, and other applicable environmental requirements.
  • Lead structural dynamics testing, including vibration, shock, and acoustic testing; review test data against requirements and correlate results with structural analysis models.
  • Lead the use and evaluation of dynamic response data from launch vehicle missions to define environments and support structural health monitoring, as applicable.
  • Prepare and technically review analysis reports, presentations, and other engineering documentation communicating analysis methods, assumptions, results, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Serve as a structural-analysis subject matter expert and lead resolution of engineering change requests, build issues, nonconformance concerns, test anomalies, and design trades.
  • Provide technical direction for practical resolution of complex hardware issues.
  • Oversee updates to analysis documentation through notices of revision and track engineering changes through product data management systems.
  • Lead cross-functional technical efforts with Integrated Product Teams and design, manufacturing, integration, test, quality, program, customer, and supplier organizations.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and work-product review for structural analysts.
  • Develop and implement improved analysis methods, automated tools, work instructions, processes, and technical standards.
  • Travel up to approximately 10% to support integration, test, customer, or program activities.
