Lead Product Designer

Foresight Works Ltd•New York, NY
•$170,000 - $200,000

About The Position

Foresight is hiring its first dedicated designer to define how people use AI to deliver critical infrastructure projects. The company connects schedules, field progress, and execution data across project stakeholders, forecasts delivery risks, and helps teams act before delays become missed dates. Its customers include data-center owners, developers, and general contractors. Reporting to the Head of Product, the Lead Product Designer will work directly with founders, engineers, and delivery experts. For at least the first 6–12 months, this is a hands-on generalist role encompassing research, interaction design, visual design, and the design system. As the team grows, the designer will help hire and shape the design team, with the opportunity to grow into leading the function. The role calls for field discovery with infrastructure project stakeholders, rapid prototyping with real project data, and designing trustworthy human–agent workflows. The designer will create experiences for owners, general contractors, trades, suppliers, and investors; own product areas from initial discovery through production and post-launch learning; and establish the design language, system, and principles for the product. The position is US-based, with New York preferred and occasional travel to customer sites required.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of experience designing and shipping software, including complex B2B, data-heavy, or enterprise products.
  • Strong customer discovery skills, including the ability to lead unstructured conversations, uncover underlying problems, and influence product thinking.
  • Ability to prototype working software in code for customer testing without waiting on engineering; experience using AI coding tools daily.
  • Experience designing for AI or automation, with considered views on trust, explainability, and software autonomy.
  • Ability to make dense, ambiguous information understandable through interfaces.
  • Experience as an early or sole designer and willingness to set standards, make decisions without an established playbook, and handle unglamorous work.
  • Ability to hold strong opinions loosely and bring engineers, sales, and customers along.
  • Interest in the physical world and designing for domain experts such as schedulers, project controls leads, and construction executives.
  • US-based; occasional travel to customer sites is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in construction, energy, infrastructure, logistics, or another industry where software meets the physical world.
  • Experience designing agent workflows that run in production.

Responsibilities

  • Lead customer discovery with owner executives, project controls leads, general contractor planners, and site teams; identify how decisions are made and frame problems for the company.
  • Build working prototypes with real project data using React, Cursor, Claude Code, or other suitable tools, and test them with customers quickly without requiring engineering time.
  • Design human–agent workflows, determining what agents should flag, draft, or do autonomously and when they should involve a person.
  • Design experiences for owners, general contractors, trades, suppliers, and investors that address their distinct needs and encourage project-wide engagement.
  • Own key product areas end to end, from initial customer conversations through production, and assess outcomes after launch.
  • Create Foresight’s design language, design system, and principles, establishing a clear visual and interaction standard for complex data.
  • Help hire and shape the design team as it grows.
