About The Position

H1 is seeking a Lead Product Designer to own design end to end on high-impact initiatives across its healthcare, data, and AI platform. The role spans discovery through launch and post-launch iteration, and involves making progress in a fast-moving environment where priorities may change. The designer works independently within the overall design direction, keeps the Design Director informed about direction, risks, and priorities, represents design with leadership, and contributes to team practices. This is an individual contributor position with leadership scope and a potential path into people management as the team grows. The Product team partners with customers, engineering, and business stakeholders to solve complex problems for life sciences organizations. The designer will make data-heavy workflows easier to understand and use, explore meaningful AI-enabled workflow improvements, and consider trust, transparency, and error handling in those experiences. The role also includes user research and usability testing, design-system evolution, collaboration across functions, and informal mentoring and critique.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of product design experience and a portfolio showing projects led from start to finish.
  • Proven ability to simplify complex user flows with heavy data elements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including confident presentations to executives and non-design stakeholders.
  • Ability to work autonomously, scope ambiguous problems, make decisions, and keep work moving without day-to-day direction.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment while balancing speed and quality and staying constructive when timelines or priorities change.
  • Experience working with engineers in an agile environment.
  • Proficiency with Figma, Claude, Jira, and Excel.
  • Leadership presence, including informal mentoring or guiding of designers, and readiness to grow into formal people management over time.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing AI-powered features or workflows.
  • Experience in healthcare, life sciences, medical technology, or another data-intensive, high-stakes domain.
  • Experience at a startup or scale-up, or in another fast-moving environment.
  • Prior experience managing or leading designers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design projects from problem definition through research, concept development, prototyping, delivery, and post-launch iteration.
  • Move from ambiguity to a clear direction, make decisions with incomplete information, and refine work as new information emerges.
  • Simplify complex, data-heavy workflows so they are clear, fast, and intuitive.
  • Identify opportunities for AI to improve user workflows and design the experiences with attention to trust, transparency, and error handling.
  • Present design work, rationale, and tradeoffs to senior leadership, and translate feedback into next steps.
  • Partner with product managers, engineers, and domain experts to scope and ship solutions.
  • Run or guide user research and usability testing, and use findings to inform decisions.
  • Maintain and evolve the design system.
  • Raise design quality through critique, informal mentoring, and sharing best practices.
  • Flag risks, dependencies, and timelines early, and manage shifting priorities.

Benefits

  • Full suite of health insurance options.
  • Generous paid time off.
  • Pre-planned company-wide wellness holidays.
  • Retirement options.
  • Health and charitable donation stipends.
  • Impactful Business Resource Groups.
  • Equity in the form of Restricted Stock Units.
