About The Position

The Lead Piping Stress Engineer provides senior-level technical direction and supervision to project team members in the Piping Engineering & Analysis discipline. The role establishes discipline task schedules and budgets, coordinates work across disciplines, and is accountable for completing project deliverables in accordance with technical, quality, and project-controls expectations. The engineer serves as a technical liaison with clients and as a lead technical resource on projects. The discipline evaluates piping systems under applicable codes, including ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and ASME B31.1 and B31.7. Specialty work may include vibration monitoring and analysis, vibration prevention and mitigation, hydraulic transient evaluations, thermal stratification assessments, operability evaluations, qualification for hydrodynamic loads, pipe rupture evaluations, flow-accelerated or microbiologically induced corrosion wall-thinning evaluations, and pipe flaw evaluations. The role reviews complex calculations and approves simple calculations; provides technical guidance; and ensures calculations meet project requirements. It reviews and approves simple system or structural designs and prepares and reviews complex designs for completeness, accuracy, quality, constructability, and operability. The engineer reviews drawings and design inputs, defines client expectations for drawings, coordinates design and engineering interfaces, and participates in design reviews. The position also prepares and reviews major system, installation, and material specifications; defines technical and commercial requirements, including vendor-submittal schedules; prepares bid evaluations for complex systems and installation scopes; participates in vendor bid negotiations; and may evaluate client change orders. The engineer prepares and reviews complex single-discipline reports and studies, contributes to multidisciplinary reports, and reviews studies and reports for sound conclusions, cost-effectiveness, and clear communication.
