Lead Piping Stress Engineer 2 - Nuclear

Sargent & Lundy•Wilmington, DE
•$134,546 - $205,557

About The Position

The Lead Piping Stress Engineer provides senior-level technical direction and supervision to project team members in the piping discipline. The role establishes discipline task schedules and budgets, coordinates work across disciplines, and ensures deliverables meet technical, quality, and project-controls expectations. The engineer serves as a technical liaison with clients and a lead technical resource on projects. The Piping Engineering & Analysis discipline evaluates piping systems under applicable codes, including ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and ASME B31.1 and B31.7. Its work also includes vibration monitoring and analysis; vibration prevention and mitigation solutions; hydraulic transient and thermal stratification evaluations; operability evaluations; qualification for hydrodynamic loads; pipe rupture evaluations; flow-accelerated and microbiologically induced corrosion assessments; and pipe flaw evaluations. Lead engineers support engineering design projects by reviewing complex calculations and approving simple calculations; guiding project team members; and ensuring calculations meet technical and project requirements. They review and prepare system or structural designs, drawings, and design inputs, and participate in design reviews to support completeness, accuracy, quality, constructability, and operability. They prepare and review specifications, define technical and commercial requirements for vendor submittals, evaluate bids and participate in vendor negotiations, and may evaluate client change orders. They also prepare and review complex single-discipline reports and studies, participate in multidisciplinary reports, and assess whether study conclusions are technically sound, cost-effective, and clearly communicated. Sargent & Lundy’s Nuclear Power Group works on nuclear engineering, design, and licensing, including small modular reactors, advanced reactor technology, reactor restart projects, existing plant life extensions and digital modernization, coal-to-nuclear conversion initiatives, and international nuclear new-build projects. The company describes its work as supporting clean, carbon-free energy and reducing emissions.
