About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Manager of MRI and Medical Director MRI, this position is responsible for performing MR procedures requiring advanced techniques. The Lead MRI Technologist functions as a lead resource, providing technical guidance, instructions, and supervision to other technologists. They assist in interpreting, communicating, and administering policies and procedures. The role involves instructing Radiology students and/or employees in clinical procedures and performing necessary clerical and administrative functions for efficient operation and patient records. Requirements

Must be registered and in good standing with the American Registry of Radiological Technology (ARRT) or the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT).
Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy advanced MRI applications and computer operations.
Must hold a current CPR certification from AHA, BLS for Healthcare Providers.
Thorough knowledge of MRI procedures to demonstrate techniques and evaluate performance of other technologists including a basic understanding of the operation of computer consoles.
An in-depth knowledge of the MRI equipment in order to analyze equipment problems, troubleshoot and arrange for its repair.
Appropriate interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients, patients ' families, departmental staff, physicians and others under physical and /or emotional stress.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to neonate, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
Analytical skills to compile and interpret routine data and organizes work.
One-year experience as a Radiologic Technologist in a hospital radiology department, plus one-year specialized training in the operation of the MRI unit.
Individual has prior experience working in a healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physicians ' offices or ancillary healthcare enterprises.
Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact.
Ability to utilize and obtain basic vital signs (i.e. blood pressure, heart rate, pulse ox).
Able to competently insert &remove IVs for contrast administration.
Ability to learn to administer IM injections per radiologist instructions.
Ability to hear verbal direct request from physicians, patients, etc.
Ability to crouch, reach and lift to allow appropriate manipulation, positioning and placement of MR coils and ancillary equipment.
Ability to see for appropriate visualization in the MRI environment.
Ability to lift and move patients to and from scanner table, transport patients in wheelchairs and/or stretchers.

Responsibilities

Utilizes experienced-based knowledge with little technical supervision to perform all the duties of a MRI Technologist in routine and complex imaging procedures.
Provides for the clinical experience of Radiology Technology students, instructing and guiding students through imaging procedures in area of responsibility. May review performance of student with supervisor.
Provides on-the-job instruction to employees in clinical procedures in area of responsibility. May participate in formal, in-service educational classes.
Performs clerical and/or administrative tasks such as inventory and ordering supplies; compiling statistics; checking equipment for proper operating condition, and reporting need for repair.
Understands and practices principles of safety with regards to strong magnetic fields as those generated by MRI systems per RIH MRI MAGNETIC FIELD SAFETY GUIDELINES (Policy MRI-02).
Assumes charge responsibility in the absence of MRI Manager.
Direct the work of others in assigning, coordinating and reviewing their work. Will provide input and perform performance appraisals, competency evaluations, QA reviews, corrective action or other personnel actions for employees regularly assigned to the area.
