About The Position

TransUnion Consumer Interactive (TUCI) develops and supports consumer-facing credit monitoring and protection applications. The engineering team delivers reliable digital experiences and explores how AI and Generative AI can improve code quality, reduce defects, increase development efficiency, and enhance customer experiences. The successful candidate will join an established team collaborating across the United States and India and will report to the Senior Manager of Application Development. This hybrid position requires performing job responsibilities virtually and in person at an assigned TU office location at least two days a week. The role leads technical design and hands-on development of customer-facing web applications, Java-based backend services, microservices, and RESTful APIs. It translates business and technical requirements into detailed application designs and drives projects from design through implementation, while remaining actively involved in coding and guiding junior and mid-level engineers. The engineer develops and supports full-stack solutions, partners with production support to investigate and resolve application issues, coordinates releases and technical changes across geographies and time zones, and participates in Agile and software quality activities. The role also evaluates and applies AI and Generative AI technologies, including LLMs, RAG, and AI-powered search, to production applications and engineering workflows, while promoting responsible use of AI-assisted development tools.

Requirements

At least 10 years of software-development experience, including at least 8 years of hands-on experience in the Java and Spring ecosystem.
Ability to design and code, rather than work solely as a project or people leader.
Demonstrated full-stack engineering experience building production web applications, backend services, microservices, and RESTful APIs.
Experience leading technical projects, producing detailed application designs, conducting code reviews, and mentoring junior and mid-level engineers.
Experience supporting production applications, investigating technical issues, troubleshooting front-end and backend components, and collaborating with production-support teams.
Practical experience applying AI or Generative AI in software-engineering environments, including for development, testing, defect reduction, troubleshooting, documentation, or engineering productivity.
Advanced hands-on experience with Java, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Hibernate, microservices architecture, RESTful APIs/Web Services, and SOAP/REST integration.
Full-stack development experience with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and jQuery, including troubleshooting front-end and backend application components.
Strong experience with Oracle Database, SQL programming, relational database design, data structures and algorithms, system design, JSON, YAML, and JUnit-based unit and integration testing.
Development and production-support experience using Git, Maven, Jenkins, Splunk, Grafana, SonarQube, Linux/Unix, and shell scripting.
Working knowledge of LLMs, Prompt Engineering, RAG, AI-powered search, and AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or comparable platforms.

Responsibilities

Lead the technical design and hands-on development of customer-facing web applications, Java-based backend services, microservices, and RESTful APIs.
Translate business and technical requirements into detailed application designs and drive projects from design through implementation.
Remain actively involved in coding while guiding junior and mid-level engineers, reviewing code, and promoting software-engineering best practices.
Develop and support full-stack solutions using Java, Spring Boot, Oracle/SQL, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and related technologies.
Partner with production support teams to investigate application issues, troubleshoot front-end and backend components, identify root causes, and relay findings to the development team.
Coordinate software releases and technical changes across teams in different geographies and time zones.
Participate in Agile planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, code reviews, unit testing, integration testing, and continuous improvement activities.
Evaluate and apply AI and Generative AI technologies to improve code quality, reduce defects, automate engineering activities, and increase development efficiency.
Explore opportunities to integrate LLMs, RAG, AI-powered search, and other AI-enabled capabilities into production applications.
Promote responsible adoption of AI-assisted development tools and mentor engineers on practical AI use cases in software development and product delivery.
