About The Position

The System Value Optimization (SVO) Engineer is responsible for wind turbine aeroelastic simulations for New Product Development and Fleet Support. The engineer performs state-of-the-art simulations in accordance with Design Practices and IEC guidelines, executes loads analyses, develops tools and methods as needed, and prepares certification documentation. The SVO team aims to create robust, cost-efficient wind turbine designs through best-in-class load assessment, validation, methods, and tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree from an accredited university in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, or aerospace engineering.
  • Experience in aeroelastic loads simulations.
  • Working knowledge of aeroelastic simulation platforms such as Bladed, HAWC2, Simpack, and SDM.
  • Relevant years of wind experience with loads assessments.
  • Experience in wind turbine control technologies, operability, and validation.
  • Expert knowledge of wind turbine component design criteria.
  • Proven ability to work in a cross-functional and global environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Execute mechanical loads analyses, controller tunings, and trade-offs involving loads, stability, operation, and performance for new products, cost-out efforts, design updates, and fleet support.
  • Prepare loads inputs, create aeroelastic models, execute loads analyses, and perform postprocessing as part of the design loop.
  • Perform basic operability checks and frequency-domain stability checks.
  • Update loads envelopes.
  • Hand off models and controllers to the MLA team for site-specific assessments.
  • Perform feasibility studies and develop tech charts.
  • Deliver loads mitigation and performance optimization technologies to lower Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE).
  • Identify and deliver ideas for process simplification and tool automation.
  • Foster team building and learning while driving new methods and ideas for loads and performance improvements.
  • Communicate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare certification documentation.
