Lead Engineer - Aero Dynamics

GE Vernova•Greenville, SC
•$89,300 - $148,700

About The Position

As an Aerodynamics Lead Engineer on the Aero, Thermal & Clearances Design (ATCD) team, you will execute aerodynamic design and analysis activities for turbomachinery hardware and architectures within GE Vernova’s gas power portfolio. The work focuses on aerodynamics across the full product life cycle, including New Product Introduction (NPI), New Technology Introduction (NTI), testing and validation, and support for fielded products. The role requires expertise in steady and unsteady aerodynamics, sound analytical judgment, and the ability to own work from concept through design review and final documentation with minimal oversight. The successful candidate works with global, cross-functional teams to deliver timely, accurate, high-quality outcomes and supports continuous improvement through Lean principles and innovation. The role includes aerodynamic analysis and design for stationary and rotating turbomachinery components, model and method development, technical documentation, root cause analysis, and design improvement. U.S. person status is required because the position involves access to export-controlled technology.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related Engineering/Science discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in aerodynamic analysis and design for turbomachinery, or comparable experience.
  • U.S. person status (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or other protected individual under the Immigration and Nationality Act) is required due to access to export-controlled technology; proof of status is required before employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field specializing in Aerodynamics, Thermal Science, or Thermal and Fluid Engineering, with a strong academic record.
  • Demonstrated experience in steady and/or unsteady aerodynamic analysis and design of turbomachinery components.
  • Experience with CFX, ICEM CFD, Fluent, ANSYS, or equivalent engineering analysis platforms.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project execution skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical conclusions and recommendations clearly.
  • Ability to work effectively in a global matrix organization with a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Strong customer and product mindset, focused on quality, operability, and timely execution.
  • Ownership and accountability to achieve goals.
  • Experience developing solutions using programming and scripting languages such as Python, Fortran, Visual Basic, or Java for engineering automation and analysis efficiency.
  • Ability to evaluate and select AI/ML strategies for long-term design system improvement.
  • Experience applying Lean tools to identify, evaluate, and implement innovative solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Independently execute aerodynamic analysis and design for flange-to-flange stationary and rotating turbomachinery components, following engineering principles, business standards, design practices, procedures, and product requirements.
  • Contribute to developing, updating, and improving 1D, 2D, and 3D aerodynamic analysis methods and design approaches to meet performance, operability, and reliability requirements.
  • Execute design and analysis across conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design phases for NPI, NTI, research, and product support programs.
  • Build, assess, and improve aerodynamic analysis models; interpret results; and prepare design review materials with conclusions, technical rationale, and recommendations.
  • Evaluate design trade-offs, identify risks, and propose solutions beyond established methods and parameters when appropriate.
  • Contribute to root cause analysis, field issue resolution, and design improvements related to aerodynamic performance and operability.
  • Collaborate with global cross-functional teams, including mechanical, thermal, performance, heat transfer, and clearance engineering teams, to deliver integrated design solutions.
  • Improve aerodynamic design practices and analysis methodologies through digital tools, scripting, and process improvements.
  • Apply Lean principles, improve standard work, and contribute to engineering templates, best practices, and process improvements that reduce rework and improve quality.
  • Document technical data, analysis outputs, assumptions, and conclusions using engineering design templates and established practices; maintain complete, accurate, traceable documentation and model management.
