About The Position

Kunin Technologies is hiring a Fluid Dynamics Engineer to lead the analysis and design of fluid flow inside ion-exchange media modules, including inlet and outlet manifolds, distribution across elements, pressure drop, channeling, dead zones, residence time, and mass transfer. The engineer will use computational fluid dynamics (CFD), reduced-order models, and experimental measurements to determine module internal geometry and performance specifications. The position is part of a new team in Chattanooga, Tennessee, developing module hardware, sourcing, and production processes. The engineer will collaborate with a mechanical engineer, a mechatronics engineer, internal production and operations teams, chemists, and external joint-development partners. The role is expected to grow to include hydraulic scale-up across module sizes and applications, in-line hydraulic quality assurance methods, and performance modeling for customer project design.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical, or aerospace engineering.
  • At least 1 year of experience with CFD tools such as ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL, or OpenFOAM.
  • Experience with experimental flow measurement, including pressure, flow rate, and tracer or dye studies.
  • At least 1 year of experience using software tools such as MATLAB or Python.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and demanding atmosphere.
  • Creative problem-solving ability that brings together fluid mechanics, porous media flow, separation chemistry, and mechanical design disciplines.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Nice To Haves

  • An advanced degree.

Responsibilities

  • Model flow through modules and their elements, including manifold design, element distribution, pressure drop, channeling, and residence time distribution, using CFD and reduced-order models.
  • Design and run bench flow loops to validate models using pressure, flow, and tracer measurements on single elements and full modules.
  • Design module internals with the mechanical engineer, including inlet and outlet headers, element seating and seals, spacers, and flow-distribution hardware.
  • Characterize mass-transfer and breakthrough performance in collaboration with chemists.
  • Develop hydraulic test protocols and quality assurance specifications for production modules.
