About The Position

As an Access Associate Lead, you play an integral role in maintaining high-quality standards of customer care. This full-time, day-shift position is based in the Emergency Room at United Memorial Medical Center – North Street Campus in Batavia, New York. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a rotation for every other weekend. The role combines team leadership with patient access duties. The Lead mentors, coaches, and encourages assigned associates; supports workflow and staff training; and performs patient-facing tasks involving calls, scheduling, registration, insurance verification, authorizations, payments, and charge review. The work is described as sedentary and primarily office-based, with prolonged sitting and minimal lifting.

Requirements

Ability to lead and take direction.
Basic computer skills.
Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

Mentor, coach, and encourage assigned associates and facilitate an effective workflow.
Assist with associate orientation, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary measures under the direction of a supervisor or manager.
Manage incoming calls and provide necessary information.
Greet patients and/or their representatives and provide direction as needed.
Schedule patient appointments.
Interview patients and/or their representatives to obtain necessary information.
Complete patient registration according to departmental policy.
Verify insurance eligibility and coverage, and obtain necessary pre-certifications or authorizations when applicable.
Collect and process co-payments, deductibles, and other payments.
Provide cost estimates when applicable.
Review charges in charge review work queues for completeness and accuracy.
